UNIFIED LEGAL DEFENSE FUND

.… A LONG TIME COMING!!

Oklahoma Chiropractic has been well overdue in challenging discriminatory practices against different aspects of the profession and the patients we serve. Of course, the desire of the Unified and other Associations before us, to spearhead this endeavor has always been there, but the funds to even get started have not. The $15,000 - $20,000 the UCA has been spending legally each of the last three years, just won’t cut it.

Of course, if the late ACEO had not siphoned relicensing seminar attendees from January 2001 thru September 2007 and what cost the UCA and the profession $325,000 in tuitions, we would have at least been talking to legal counsel that would have been sending out letters and instigating mediation. Further, if what would have amounted to an additional $440,000 in UCA tuitions would not have been wasted by OSCIPA since November 2004 on duplicate seminar overheads and “free tuitions” as a kickback for being a paying client each month, the UCA would have already had some judicial decisions.

We have the data from many institutional studies that can be used to take a stand and make a difference in the health care debate.  Once we successfully challenge the status quo on a few discriminatory practices, attitudes will change and respect for Chiropractic will be gained; not only from insurance companies, but from State legislators, Commissions, Authorities, Agencies and Boards, in particular the other health care disciplines.

The UCA wants to thank all of you we have logged in our database as an attendee of our seminars over the last decade. We hope we can count on you once again, not just for your tuition check, not just for your PAC check, but this time for your Legal Defense Fund check. The UCA hopes that those who feel they must continue to reap the benefit of OSCIPA’s kickback, “Free” seminar tuition, will at least see the wisdom of contributing to this worthwhile endeavor to fight for their due as a licensed physician and what their patients’ deserve as a consumer. For if we don’t do it, who will? At your request, we will keep your contribution private.

Yours in Chiropractic,

Tom Derstine, D.C., UCA Exec. Dir.
